Amazon's UAE marketplace, launched after the acquisition and rebranding of Souq.com

About Amazon.ae

Amazon.ae is the UAE online marketplace of Amazon, the global e-commerce company. It was created after Amazon acquired Souq.com, one of the Middle East's pioneering e-commerce companies, in 2017. The Souq.com platform was rebranded as Amazon.ae in 2019, bringing Amazon's full marketplace to the UAE.

Souq.com's story is an important part of the region's startup history. Founded in the mid-2000s, it grew into one of the largest online retailers in the Arab world, and its acquisition by Amazon was one of the biggest technology deals in the region at the time. It showed global investors that e-commerce companies built in the Middle East could reach significant scale.

Today Amazon.ae sells a very wide range of products, including electronics, fashion, beauty, home goods, groceries and books, from Amazon's own retail operation and from third-party sellers. Local and international sellers use the platform to reach UAE customers.

Amazon operates fulfilment centres in the UAE, which support fast delivery, including same-day and next-day options in many areas. Its Prime subscription offers benefits such as free fast delivery and access to Prime Video.

For sellers, the platform provides tools and services such as Fulfilment by Amazon, where Amazon stores, packs and ships products on the seller's behalf. This makes it easier for small businesses to sell at scale.

The UAE is one of the most developed e-commerce markets in the region, with high online spending and strong logistics infrastructure. Competition is intense, with regional players such as Noon and many specialist retailers competing for customers.

Amazon.ae is a foreign-owned company rather than a UAE startup, but its roots in Souq.com make it part of the UAE's e-commerce story. Startups UAE includes it among the major online marketplaces serving the country.
