Abu Dhabi petrochemicals company producing polyolefins, a joint venture of ADNOC and Borealis

About Borouge

Borouge is an Abu Dhabi petrochemicals company that produces polyolefins, the plastics used in everyday products. It was established in 1998 as a joint venture between ADNOC and Borealis, the Austrian chemicals company, and listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange in 2022.

Its main products are polyethylene and polypropylene. These materials are used in packaging, pipes, cables, car parts, healthcare products, agriculture and many other applications.

Borouge's production complex in Ruwais, in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra region, is one of the largest integrated polyolefins sites in the world. It uses feedstock from ADNOC's gas processing and refining operations.

Most of its output is exported, with large markets in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, served through sales offices and logistics hubs abroad.

The company focuses on higher-value, specialised grades developed with Borealis technology, rather than only basic commodity plastics.

Like the rest of the plastics industry, Borouge faces pressure to reduce emissions and support recycling and circular economy solutions.

Startups UAE lists Borouge among the UAE's major industrial companies.
