About Decathlon UAE
Decathlon is a French sporting goods retailer founded in 1976 near Lille. It has grown into one of the world's largest sports retailers, known for affordable equipment and clothing across a very wide range of sports.
A distinctive feature of Decathlon is that most of its products are sold under its own brands, each focused on a sport or activity. Examples include Quechua for hiking and camping, Kipsta for team sports, Domyos for fitness, Btwin (now Decathlon's cycling range) and Tribord for water sports. Designing its own products allows the company to keep prices low.
Stores are large and organised by sport, covering running, cycling, swimming, football, basketball, racket sports, fitness, camping, hiking, water sports, horse riding and more. Customers can often test equipment in store, and staff are frequently sports enthusiasts themselves.
Decathlon's accessible pricing makes it popular with families, beginners and people trying new sports, as well as with experienced athletes looking for good-value equipment.
In the UAE, Decathlon operates stores in several locations and sells online. The country's outdoor and fitness culture supports strong demand, especially during the cooler months when residents camp, hike, cycle and take part in outdoor sports.
Water sports and beach activities are particularly relevant in the UAE, with the coastline offering kayaking, paddleboarding and swimming.
Workshops for bike servicing and racket stringing, along with click-and-collect services, add convenience.
The UAE sports retail market is competitive, with brand stores, multi-brand sports retailers, hypermarkets and online platforms all selling sportswear and equipment.
Decathlon is a French brand rather than a UAE company, and Startups UAE lists its UAE stores among the international sports retailers in the country.
