About Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, known as DEWA, provides electricity and water to homes and businesses in Dubai. It was formed in 1992 through the merger of the emirate's separate electricity and water bodies.

DEWA generates power, desalinates seawater and runs the transmission and distribution networks that deliver electricity and water across Dubai. Residents deal with DEWA when they set up accounts for new homes and pay monthly bills.

Clean energy has become a major focus. DEWA leads the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, one of the largest renewable energy projects in the world, built in phases with private developers. It also runs Shams Dubai, which lets building owners install rooftop solar and connect it to the grid.

Other initiatives include a pumped-storage hydroelectric plant in Hatta, electric vehicle charging through EV Green Charger stations and digital services through its app.

In 2022, DEWA listed on the Dubai Financial Market in one of the largest IPOs in the region, with the government retaining a majority stake.

Dubai aims to produce a large share of its energy from clean sources by 2050, and DEWA is central to this goal.
