About Frying Pan Adventures
Frying Pan Adventures runs food walking tours through the older neighbourhoods of Dubai. It was founded in 2013 by sisters Arva and Farida Ahmed, who grew up in Dubai and wanted to show visitors and residents a side of the city's food culture beyond hotel restaurants and malls.
The tours focus mainly on areas such as Deira and Bur Dubai, where generations of traders and migrants from Iran, India, Pakistan, the Levant, Africa and elsewhere opened small family-run eateries. Guests walk from one spot to the next, tasting dishes and hearing the stories behind them.
A typical tour might include Emirati and Arabic specialities, Iranian breads and kebabs, Indian street snacks, Levantine sweets and more, all within a few streets. Along the way, guides explain how trade, migration and history shaped what people eat in Dubai.
The tours have been featured by international media and travel guides, and have helped bring attention to independent eateries that rarely appear in tourist itineraries.
The company has also run tours focused on specific cuisines and on themes such as Ramadan food traditions.
Food tourism has grown worldwide as travellers look for authentic, local experiences, and Frying Pan Adventures was among the first in Dubai to offer this kind of tour.
Startups UAE lists Frying Pan Adventures among Dubai's homegrown tourism businesses.
