About Spacetoon
Spacetoon is an Arabic children's television and entertainment brand founded in 2000 and based in Dubai. It became one of the most popular children's channels in the Arab world, and generations of children grew up watching its animated programmes.
The channel is known for broadcasting animation and children's series dubbed into Arabic, including many Japanese anime and international cartoons. Its programming was organised into themed "planets", such as action, adventure, comedy and sports, which became a distinctive part of its identity.
Dubbing is central to Spacetoon's work. Translating and voicing programmes in Arabic makes international content accessible to children who may not speak other languages, and Spacetoon's dubbing has been widely recognised in the region. Its theme songs, often sung in Arabic, are remembered by many viewers who grew up in the 2000s.
Beyond its TV channel, Spacetoon has developed digital platforms, including streaming services and apps, allowing children to watch content on phones, tablets and smart TVs. The shift to digital viewing has changed how children consume content, and broadcasters have adapted to compete with global streaming platforms.
Spacetoon has also been involved in merchandising, events and other activities linked to its programmes and characters.
Children's content in Arabic remains an important area, as parents look for programmes that are entertaining, age-appropriate and in their own language.
The UAE, and Dubai in particular, has become a regional media hub, with free zones such as Dubai Media City hosting broadcasters, production companies and media businesses.
Competition includes international streaming services, other Arabic children's channels and online video platforms.
Spacetoon holds a special place in Arab pop culture, and Startups UAE lists it among the UAE's media and entertainment companies.
